Celina - New Build

Brickslips can be used in new build situations to clad the exterior walls. They can be safely fixed to the more traditional concrete build systems as well as to the latest high technology insulating concrete formwork construction or SIPS techniques. These systems are becoming ever more relevant as new building regulations force the industry to look at new ways of meeting the higher U-value requirements. It is only important that they are correctly laid, bearing in mind the correct adhesive for each substrate and using mechanical support as necessary.

Celina Klinker brickslips are ideal for use by all developers or self-builders for new buildings, where you would like to clad the exterior of insulated concrete formwork buildings (or other framework construction). See www.newmil.co.uk as an example of how this can work to your advantage. In combination with the Stegu mineral stone cladding, also available from Padipa Solutions, all types and styles of buildings can be easily accommodated.

This house has been system built and clad with Celina-Klinker brickslips. As you can see the finished result is indistinguishable from a traditionally built house.

Who can use Celina-Klinker Brickslips?
• Major Contractors – eliminates dependency on bricklayers to erect the structure and saves time
and therefore money
• Individual houses and self-build – greater flexibility in design and simpler project management.

In a typical house built on 2-3 levels, the external supporting walls can be erected to roof level within days allowing work to start on the internal fitting at the same time as the exterior is clad.

Savings
1) Build Time

We all know that time is money, so if the structure of a house can be put up on site in short order and work can then immediately start inside, while the outside is also being rapidly transformed, the knock-on savings can be very considerable. The lengthy delays often experienced on traditional builds just do not happen.

For every week that is saved in construction, the monetary saving, including project management and equipment hire etc could easily be £2,500. With time savings of potentially several weeks this quickly becomes £10,000, bearing in mind that labour and material costs should not normally exceed a traditional build for a similar specification.

2) Manufactured Brickslips or Cut Bricks?

A manufactured thinbrick (brickslip) from Celina Klinker costs about the same or perhaps a little more than a traditionally sized facing brick. In order to be used as cladding these bricks must be cut down. A minimum depth of approx.20mm can be achieved and not the 15mm as standard for thinbricks. More importantly there are no additional cutting costs and the associated costs incurred in the disposal of the brickwaste. Potential savings here of 40-50% over the total cost of cut bricks would be typical.

Appearance
Aesthetically buildings ought to blend with their environment. The right brick colours can be matched to surrounding buildings and Stegu stone comes in shades to match those used in sensitive conservation areas, as demanded by the planners.
(See Stones pages for more information).

The brickslips can also be mixed with stone or rendering to achieve an individual architectural effect.

Examples

In this typical detached family house a red & blue coloured brickslip has been used.
